HELPING PATIENTS WITH DISABILITIES NAVIGATE WAITING ROOMS: NAVIGATION WR
NAVIGATION WR, created in November 2017, was established by a group of Occupational Therapy Master students at the University of New Hampshire. The program is based on the Elliot Health System (EHS). EHS is the largest provider of comprehensive healthcare services in Southern New Hampshire and is located in Manchester, NH. The purpose of NAVIGATION WR is to help patients with disabilities navigate waiting rooms and overcome stress using sensory strategies. Elliot Health System's mission is "strive to inspire wellness, heal our patients and serve with compassion in every interaction (Elliot Hospital, 2017)." They offer a variety of services for all ages. Pediatric services include: inpatient care, rehabilitation (Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy), surgery, emergency department, development, and a pediatric/adolescent unit. NAVIGATION WR was recently implemented in Elliot Pediatric Specialties and they were given a sensory board for their waiting room.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

Provide children/adolescents, their families, and health professionals with access to sensory-based strategies, like a sensory board, to utilize in waiting rooms to overcome stress and anxiety
-
